Adriaan had just come back from working in the usa for 2 years, where instant coffee is basically non existent but filter coffee like starbucks is widely available. Even at smaller petrol stations freshly brewed coffee is available 24/7
His love for the dark-brewed-heavenly-smelling nectar was born
On a scuba diving trip to egypt in 2008, we experienced the very potent turkish coffee’s for which the region is known. It was also the first time i tasted the famous starbucks coffee.
In dec 2009/jan2010 we made a trip to europe, tasting coffees from london, bath, amsterdam, paris, milan, venice, florence and rome. The european coffee culture was one of our most memorable experiences. From early morning cappuccino’s to the rich, aromatic, velvety espresso. We tried them all.
In zanzibar, tanzania in dec 2011 we had our first interaction with african coffees and fell in love with their aromas.
The Beginning of a Dream…
Back home over the years we experimented with various ways to brew good coffee, from french presses, mocha pots, filter machines to our small breville espresso machine
September 2015 saw us making our way to my fathers homeland of germany. And with germans drinking on average 150 litres of coffee* a year, more than beer or wine. It goes without saying we drank a lot of different coffees, caffė crema being the most popular
We have bought and tried numerous coffee brands from all over south africa and europe
It was at this point after our germany trip that we reached a point and thought, why don’t we roast our own beans? But let’s not stop there, why don’t we put up a roastery in our home town of bloemfontein and supply everybody with the best quality coffee out there.
And so, bloemfontein coffee roasting co. Was founded 2016
